Nursery Progress

Ever since getting our nursery furniture in place, I’ve been slacking on completing everything. I finally decided I had to get it mostly finished up before our virtual shower since we were planning to do a nursery tour.

I ordered some adorable prints on Amazon of woodland animals with flower crowns that I thought were perfectly feminine, yet not too ‘baby.’ I also got some inexpensive frames from IKEA as the perfect finishing touch.

We don’t have a ton of wall space in the nursery because of all the doors (entry, closet, bathroom), and the window. I ordered seven prints in total, and once in the frames, I realized I was going to have to get creative with placement because it was just way too much for one wall.

My mom had the brilliant idea of cutting papers into the size of the frames and taping them to the walls so I could see where they would all go and how it would look without having to put holes in the walls. This was a HUGE help. It instantly made me feel so much more confident that the walls weren’t going to look cluttered.

Not fancy or professional at all, but got the job done!

Once all of the papers were in place, it was time to hang! Having the papers on the wall also helped us to keep everything lined up as planned. Though I’ll admit we didn’t measure – just eyeballed it. I think it worked out just fine! No one will look too closely; right?!

Olive was in charge of guarding the pictures to make sure they didn’t run away before we could hang them. 😉 Isn’t she just going to be the best big sister?

I decided to do three prints above the crib, and used the other four to frame the window. I think this helped to spread the theme throughout the room.

After the prints were all hung, we moved onto the book shelf. This is also from IKEA and they are actually spice racks. I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was too cute to pass up. Of course we will have more books than will fit here, so it’s not the most practical, but looks nice! I will probably add a small bookshelf/bin on the floor down the line.

My trusty helper is always in charge of the power drill. 😄 I can’t seem to be trusted with that.

I also ordered some curtains off Amazon because the blinds on the window are just blah and it needed a little something.

Lastly, we just had to add some shelving into the closet that we thought would be so easy to redo. Boy was I wrong… the closet ended up being such an odd size that I couldn’t find any shelves that would fit well. We did get one wire rack to go across the top, but were falling short in finding anything for the sides.

Again, my incredible mother remembered that she had some of the plastic storage bins in one of her closets, and what do you know? These fit perfectly! So we picked a few up at Walmart and popped them right into place.

I didn’t manage to take any progress pictures of us working on the closet because… well it wasn’t the smoothest of processes. 😂 I may have dropped the shelf on Mike’s head at one point when I was supposed to be holding it up. There were just a few technical difficulties and choice words. But hey – at the end of the day, the shelf is now up and looks great! So it’s just a funny story to think about.

A post will come soon with the full nursery reveal! 😄 I am loving how it is turning out and love just sitting in there, taking it all in and imagining spending the many late nights rocking our precious baby girl. 🥰

Nursery Furniture

I got so lucky and happened to pop on Target’s website over Memorial Day Weekend to find that they were offering a $40 gift card if you spent $250 on baby furniture!

I was planning to get my crib and dresser from Target, so figured this would be the best opportunity. After all, who knows when that offer may come up again.

I ordered each piece individually to get multiple gift cards. Is this cheating the system? Probably… but heck! I was spending some money! I ordered the crib, followed by the dresser.

The rest of my baby registry was on Amazon – with the only other piece of furniture being a glider. I did a quick search on Target to find that they had the very same chair available at the same price! You better bet I bought this from Target too for yet another gift card!

This was my first big purchase for baby. My poor, poor credit card needed to be put away after these purchases. 😂 But I was so excited for them to arrive!

We had been working on painting the nursery, so I decided it was okay to order furniture now to fill the space. It had just been an empty room for so long now. Making it feel more ‘baby’ made the excitement SO REAL.

The dresser was the first to arrive. Mike and I assembled it in no time and didn’t even yell at each other!

The dresser/changing table was the one thing I went back and forth on the most. We were fairly concerned about finding something that would be tall enough to comfortably change diapers on. Mike and I are both tall, and didn’t want to be bending uncomfortably, especially during those middle of the night, sleep deprived changes. Upon arrival, it seems like this one will be just fine!

Next came the glider – no assembly required!

As you can see – the dogs already approve!

Last was the crib. Don’t you hate when you get that out for delivery notification, and it takes alllllllll day to arrive? It said it would arrive by 9pm, and sure enough at 8pm – there it was.

So many great options, and after reading what felt like hundreds of reviews, these were my choices! So far things are looking great and the nursery is coming together.

Aside from this, the nursery is still a work in progress. I have commitment issues when it comes to decor so I am on a pause (and also to help my wallet 😂). I will definitely be posting photos of a more completed nursery down the road. 😊

My first trip back into the world

Decorating the nursery was something I had been looking forward to for quite some time. Especially being furloughed from work, I was dying to have a project to do around the house! We weren’t comfortable braving a hardware store during quarantine, so I eagerly waited for news of things to start opening.

Once the city began to open – Mike still wasn’t comfortable jumping right back out into the thick of it. Although bummed, I didn’t disagree. He agreed to wait two weeks to see if another huge wave came, and then we would go.

Those two weeks passed, and the day was finally here  to venture out into the world! First up: the hardware store. We planned to go in the evening – it was a Saturday, as we assumed it might be a bit less busy. We pulled up to Home Depot, to see a line of people waiting outside, socially distanced 6 feet apart. It was a pretty warm day, and we figured we didn’t want to wait in a line.

We headed off in hopes that Lowe’s wouldn’t be quite so busy. BINGO! No line to get in. Just about everyone had their masks on, and the entrance and exit were clearly marked – it was a pleasant experience, though I felt like I was breaking the rules.

We quickly browsed the paint swatches and picked a color – a light green. Instantly I was worried that Mike had rushed me and assumed I would end up hating the color. 😂 It’s always his fault right? We grabbed our few items and were back on our way home.

So much anticipation for what was once a normal errand, now seemed to be such a big production. I will admit, I felt happy and safe to be back in our own space with no strangers.

And now, the nursery redecoration could commence!
