My Mom is here!!!

My mom has officially arrived and is here for the long haul! This just made everything SO REAL. We have been planning her arrival at the beginning of September for so long now, and it felt so far away – almost like it would never come. Well guess what? It’s September and she is here!

Mom is Here!

I’m so excited to get to spend these last couple of weeks finishing up nesting with the best mom in the whole wide world. I’m sure we won’t do anything too exciting (again, thanks COVID), but hopefully we can get a little bit of safe shopping in, and at the very least some evening walks! Up until now it has been so hot here, and all of the nearby forest fires have made the air quality absolutely terrible, so I haven’t been getting out into the fresh air as much as I would’ve liked to.

Otherwise, I’m sure we will get some freezer meals prepped, some cleaning done, and just some quality mother-daughter bonding time in. Maybe she will even snag a picture or two of Mike and I since we decided against formal maternity photos. I feel like we need some sort of evidence that I was pregnant with Mike in the pictures. 😂 He is not much for photo shoots, so I’ve done my best to come to terms with that but did give him a heads up that I will want pictures of our little family of three when baby girl arrives!!

We also spoiled ourselves with a little bit of safe pampering already – pedicures!! I last got my toes done in February. Needless to say, they needed some love and it was pure bliss.

Here’s to the baby countdown!!!

Telling my parents I’m pregnant

Keeping this secret from my mom was one of the hardest things to do. I think the only way that I was able to keep it for so long is solely due to the fact that we live in different states and I hadn’t seen her in person. I tell her everything! And call her at least once a week, so the weeks went on, her asking “what’s new?” And me replying back: “oh… nothing much”. LIES!!! I had huge news, but wanted to tell her in a cute way at the perfect time.

I decided to wait until after our first ultra sound to tell my parents. For some reason, I just needed to see that little baby on the screen before getting too many people excited about our big news.

I had searched and searched on Amazon for the perfect mugs that would reveal the news to my parents. I knew that the dogs needed to be involved somehow, so I had stumbled upon a mug that said something along the lines of “you’ve been promoted from dog grandma to human grandma.” This was perfect. So then, it was narrowing down which of these mugs was the cutest.

For some reason I couldn’t find a similar one that said grandpa, so after great lengths of hunting, I found “you’re going to be a babysitter… I mean grandpa.” I thought that one would at least get a chuckle.

They arrive to my house, and I decided to wrap them up in gift wrap and then back into an Amazon box. My ploy to get these to my parents without being too random, was that I had bought Pat a polo from the golf shop at the hotel I work at months ago, and had never sent it to him! I told my mom I was finally going to put this in the mail and to FaceTime us when they opened it because we wanted to see if he liked it and hadn’t ‘seen’ them in awhile.

The day of our first OB appointment, I packed the box up and brought it in the car with us. After all went well, I headed off to work, and sent Mike on the important mission of taking this to the post office. The package was on its way and I was SO excited.

The package arrive on Friday and Pat wasn’t going to be back in town until Saturday. Saturday was our skiing lesson, so we had to wait all day to share our news! As we got closer to home, I texted my mom to set up our FaceTime visit! Just one more hour until we got to share the news!

I tired to play it cool in the beginning of the call. It was just a normal call, right? Wrong! We started off with casual conversation, catching up on the usual. Finally my parents said, oh yeah, let’s open this package! So Pat opens the box – loved the polo! But what are these? A gift for Ma and Pat underneath? Surprised, my mom didn’t know why there was something in there for her too.

Pat let my mom go first. She unwrapped her little box, opened it up, and inside was a mug. She pulled it out to read, at quick glance, exclaimed “what?” and as she read the whole mug wound up in tears! Which then of course, sparked tears for Pat too. He then opened his assuming it would say something similar. They were beyond excited!

After that, the questions started coming, the discussions of excitement and so on and so forth.

My mom even called me back the next day to again tell me how excited she was and see how I was feeling. Now that she knew, she felt the need to check in on me every day to make sure I was taking care of myself. The most pure of mothers. 😇

A fun and memorable reveal!

Meet Us

Welcome! Please join us on our journey of life. My dream is to create a place to share the raw truth; a place to read about real experiences. I feel that so often, we are sharing only the best, and from an outsider’s perspective, it can seem like some people have perfect lives. I think we all know that’s not the case, they are simply sharing the best. I want to share the good, the bad, and the ugly because life isn’t always glamorous, and I want this to be a more realistic look into our lifestyle in an effort to spread positivity and to create more genuine expectations.

With that being said, I’m Rachel! I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, near Seattle, where I was spoiled with the best seafood, the most gorgeous scenery, and all the rain! I’m currently 28 years old and have been married to my wonderful husband, Mike, for 7 years now.

We met on a trip to Israel at the ripe age of 19. To be more specific, we technically met in the JFK airport baggage claim area, with my first memory of Mike being him coming down the escalator in a cowboy hat… that’s totally normal, right? I guess our love story is one of those where the girl finds the boy annoying, ignores him, and then somehow once we’re back to reality they just seem to click. It all started in a park in an unfamiliar area of town, and the rest is history. I can’t leave out the most important detail that I used printed MAPQUEST directions to get there. By no means do I consider myself old, but I think I just dated myself….

We recently moved to the Denver area from sunny Las Vegas where we are enjoying having four seasons and nature in every direction. We are fur baby parents to our two rescue pups that are spoiled rotten! If we could adopt all the dogs and have a sanctuary, we totally would, but that dream is for another time. Olive is our little princess; the sweetest dog you will ever meet! Most of the time she thinks she’s human, and we haven’t quite gotten the courage to tell her that she’s a dog, so she is living her best life. Yoda is the king of snuggles and doesn’t understand the concept of personal space. He gives more kisses than anyone could ever hope for and goes straight for the mouth if you aren’t paying attention!

I am a catering manager, focused on weddings and special events and Mike is an accountant. Can you tell that we are the most exciting couple you could ever meet? In our spare time, we like to cook together, go hiking, cheer on the Golden Knights, and spend time exploring our new city! Though our most favorite hobby of all time has to be *drum roll please* eating!

While Mike likely won’t be doing much of the blogging, he’ll of course be included in so many posts, and is a huge help when it comes to the tech side (my savior!) so it’s just as important that you know him too. 😊

Even if one person finds this blog entertaining, comforting, or slightly helpful, I will consider my goal accomplished! We hope you enjoy and we look forward to sharing our journey with you!
