First OB appointment and ultra sound

I was so excited for our first appointment at 9 weeks. Also nervous. You can’t help but think about the worst going into these things… We started off with an ultra sound. The ultra sound tech was an absolute doll. She was very friendly, warm and welcoming, and gave us lots of great information. She found the baby in no time, and showed us the quickly beating heart and said everything looked good.

Of course Mike had to ask… “would we be able to tell if it were twins now?” The ultra sound tech replied… “funny you would ask… there’s a second sac in her.” Turns out it was going to be twins but one didn’t make it. WHAT?! In the second sac was a teeny tiny little nubbin that had stopped growing a few weeks back. Wow! We almost had twins??

Mike was a little bummed. He thought it would’ve been cool to have twins. While it definitely would have been cool, it would’ve brought along a number of other challenges as well. I don’t know exactly how I feel about this, but I am certainly happy to have one happy and healthy little baby growing in there, so I have tried my absolute best to stick with that positive outlook despite what could have been. 😊

We watched the screen in awe as our tiny little nugget bounced around, practically doing flips. Mike was shocked that I couldn’t feel any of this. Such a fun experience, making things a little bit more real. We were sent on our way with some photo keepsakes.

After our ultra sound, we met with the NP and discussed all of the pregnancy basics and what to expect during appointments through September. Mike asked his questions, and interjected with his witty comments. I’m sure he kept the NP well entertained…  😂
